Confidentiality & compliance
Never. LegisBox is installed physically in your firm. Your clients' documents never leave your local network. An internet connection is only used to download updates to public law (BAILII, legislation.gov.uk, Find Case Law, ICO decisions) โ never to transmit private client data.
No. Uploading confidential client files to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any cloud service risks breaching Legal Professional Privilege, UK GDPR, and the SRA Code of Conduct. The SRA has issued formal Warning Notices about "Shadow AI". Your data reaches servers outside your control, often outside the UK. LegisBox eliminates this risk: the AI is in your firm. Absolutely. LPP requires that privileged communications remain confidential. Uploading client files to any cloud AI โ even one claiming UK compliance โ risks waiving privilege permanently and irreversibly. LegisBox processes everything on-premises: no third party ever sees or handles your files. This is the only way to guarantee absolute protection. Understanding LPP and AI โ
Yes, natively. All data stays in your firm. Zero transfers to third countries. No data processing agreements with cloud sub-processors required for firm documents. Compliant by architecture โ not by contract or privacy policy. Full UK GDPR guide โ
Cloud providers claiming UK hosting can still sub-process data through entities subject to US Cloud Act requests or other extraterritorial legislation. A data centre in London does not guarantee your data cannot be accessed by a foreign government or parent company. The SRA's Warning Notice specifically addresses this point. With LegisBox, the hardware is physically in your firm โ you can see it, touch it, disconnect it. That is the only absolute guarantee.
Yes. LegisBox is designed specifically to comply with SRA obligations on confidentiality (Paragraph 6.3 of the Code), data security, and the duty to keep client affairs confidential. It directly addresses the SRA's Warning Notices on Shadow AI. Human review is required on every output โ Lex assists, but the solicitor retains professional responsibility. SRA Warning Notice guide โ
How it works
Less than one working day. Our team handles everything: hardware delivery, network installation, secure configuration, and training for your solicitors. No technical skills required from your side. You can begin using it the same day it arrives.
Yes. LegisBox is installed in your firm and works completely offline. An internet connection is only used for automatic nightly updates to public law (BAILII, legislation.gov.uk, Find Case Law, ICO decisions). Your case files and AI remain available even during a network outage โ critical for court days when connectivity is unreliable.
Yes. LegisBox includes secure remote access with end-to-end encryption. You can access your case files from any device (PC, Mac, tablet, phone) via an encrypted connection, from the Royal Courts of Justice, your home, or while travelling. LPP is maintained at all times โ your data never passes through a third-party server.
The fundamental difference is where your data is processed. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot send your clients' documents to foreign servers outside your control, risking LPP waiver and UK GDPR breaches. LegisBox processes everything locally โ zero data leaves your network. LegisBox is also specialised in English and Welsh law: it knows BAILII, legislation.gov.uk, the SRA Code of Conduct, and CPR deadlines โ updated every night.
Your data belongs entirely to you. In the event of a move or structural change, our team supports the hardware transfer and data migration to the new location. All your data remains under your control at every step โ nothing is held in any cloud or third-party system.
Pricing & tax relief
Yes, everything is included in the monthly fee: automatic nightly updates to legislation and case law (BAILII, legislation.gov.uk, Find Case Law, ICO decisions, SRA guidance, Law Commission reports), technical support, hardware and software maintenance, and AI updates. Yes. The LegisBox subscription is an allowable business expense for solicitors and barristers under HMRC rules. For a 45% higher-rate taxpayer, the effective monthly cost of the Solo plan (ยฃ499/month) is approximately ยฃ274/month โ automatically, without any special application. The hardware lease is also eligible for capital allowances. Full tax guide โ
Yes. Training on LegisBox โ including the initial session provided on installation and any subsequent training โ counts towards your SRA Continuing Competence requirements under the competency framework. We provide all necessary records and certificates for your competency statement.
The standard commitment is 36 months, which corresponds to the hardware lease model. Different terms can be discussed depending on your firm's situation โ contact us to discuss this during the demo. There are no penalties for upgrading your plan during the term.
Features
Yes. LegisBox supports 26 languages, including Arabic, Mandarin, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Polish and more. For each foreign-language document, Lex generates a translation and a legal relevance summary indicating the nature of the document and its importance to the matter โ critical for international commercial work and immigration files.
Yes. LegisBox integrates OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology that automatically converts scanned documents and images into indexed, searchable text. Recognition quality is high, including on lower-resolution scans โ useful for handwritten notes, old deeds, and legacy paper files.
The number of simultaneous users depends on the plan chosen: up to 4 solicitors on Solo, up to 10 on Professional, unlimited on Chambers. Simultaneous access is managed automatically by the box โ no configuration required. All users share the same on-premises hardware, meaning no data ever leaves the firm regardless of how many fee earners are logged in.
Yes. Lex is trained on the Civil Procedure Rules, the Limitation Act 1980, and the full body of procedural law for England and Wales. It can calculate deadline dates, flag forthcoming time limits from case documents, and alert your team through the smart diary system. SRA compliance โ the duty to act in clients' best interests and avoid negligence โ is built into the deadline-tracking design.
